Nerja resident sentenced to prison for causing forest fire

A court has sentenced a Nerja resident to three months in prison and fined him €720 for causing a forest fire through negligence at a finca he owned in Motril.

The man was accused of causing the fire by burning dry branches following the pruning of fruit trees on his property in the Panata area of Motril.

The fine of €720 euros is compensation for a neighbour who suffered damage to his property as a result of the fire. Failure to pay the fine will result in 60 days being added to his sentence.

The case dates back to may 2005.
