Out go the school lights

On Thursday, some classes had to be suspended at Pedro de Lope school in La Redondela, Huelva, after the electricity company Sevillana-Endesa cut the electricity supply due to non-payment of bills.

The Council notified the school in December that it would not be able to continue paying the school’s electricity bill, roughly €1,000 per month, due to lack of finances.

The Council believes that the payment of the electricity bill is not their responsibility and that other administrative bodies must assume that responsibility. The school accounts for one quarter of the Town Hall’s electricity bill.

There are 180 pupils at the school and many of the classes involve the use of computers.
