Atlético Madrid are in the final of the Europa league after an exciting and highly entertaining second-leg at Anfield and will now play Fulham in the final on May 12th.
Trailing 1-0 from the first leg in Spain, Liverpool levelled the tie when Alberto Aquilani converted Yossi Benayoun’s cross and they added a second early in extra time through Benayoun’s half-volley.
However, Diego Forlán struck an extra-time away goal to end Liverpool’s hopes of progressing and book Atletico Madrid’s place in the final. Forlán’s after goal celebrations, the removal of his shirt as he charged round the pitch, earned him a yellow card but he showed very little concern.
