Torrox scholar produces new book

Local Torrox scholar and researcher Salvador Márquez Galindo has been scouring the Spanish archives and compiling a book containing unique facts about the Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación.

The author describes the XVI Century church, built on top of an VIII Century mosque, as practically unique in its category and states that earlier descriptions and references to the church are inaccurate or misleading.

The book, with the catchy title ‘La Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación. Análisis Histórico-Artístico del Templo Torroxeño’, goes on sale at 20:00 today, Monday, in the bookshop Libritos in plaza de la Constitución.

The church itself is in need of restoration but this has been hindered by a lack of finance and a lack of staff qualified to assess the unique elements of the building.
