The Association of Employers of Vélez-Málaga (ACEV) has submitted a written request to the Council requesting that temporary food stalls in the municipality be subject to the same obligatory rules on health and hygiene as apply to fixed premises and shops.
ACEV complain that shops have to invest significant sums to comply with the health and hygiene laws and, as a result, lose out to temporary food stalls, such as in the markets, where the same standards do not apply. They also believe that the lack of compliance with health and hygiene standards means that consumers could be at risk.
