Action urged on preventing beach erosion

The Councillor for Beaches, Jonathan Méndez, has stated that he ‘values highly’ a motion presented to the Senate by the Popular Parliamentary Group urging the Government to take action, provided there are no adverse technical or environmental issues, for the stabilization of a number of beaches in the province of Málaga, including El Playazo, La Torrecilla and Burriana in Nerja.

Not that this is likely to result in any positive action. The Councillor recalled that, a year ago, the groups in the People’s Party approved unanimously a motion urging the Ministry of Environment to develop new measures to stabilise the beaches in Málaga province.

The result? Continued replenishment of sand every time there is a storm, an action criticised by local authorities, engineers and other experts as being no way to solve the problem.
