The Councillor for Urban Planning in Vélez-Málaga is attempting to find a suitable solution to the problems surrounding the proposed new mortuary in Torre del Mar.
Residents in the Cuesta del Visillo area, the proposed site of the new mortuary, object to the facility being built in their residential neighbourhood as it would have an adverse effect on their lives and the value of their property.
The Mayor of Torre del Mar has already suspended the contract procedure until a solution to the problem can be found.
The Council cannot just deny the building permit request for the mortuary as their are no legitimate grounds to do so, the site conforming to the various planning laws in operation.
One solution being studied is a land swap with the developer, the Council owning a suitable plot on the industrial estate.
