Much hooting in the streets as Spain overcame Portugal 1-0 to reach the quarter finals of the World Cup and a meeting with Paraguay who, earlier in the day, beat Japan on penalties.
This was the best performance by Spain in the World Cup so far although the two teams were fairly evenly matched. It took a goal from David Villa to break the deadlock.
Excellent performances from Villa, who was all over the place, Capdevilla, Pujol and Pique for Spain. Somewhat disappointing overall showings from Torres and, for Portugal, Ronaldo, both of whom recently appear to put more effort into diving and tumbling than any other activity.
