Over and out

A group of 15 monkeys showed great initiative as they made their great escape from Kyoto University’s primate research institute in Aichi Prefecture, catapulting themselves one by one over a 17 foot electric fence surrounding their compound.

The monkeys used the branches of trees to fling themselves over the fence. It is thought that the group may have had a disagreement with other monkeys in the compound and decided to leave.

However, once outside, they seemed not to know what to do next and remained by the gate. Scientists at the institute managed to tempt them back inside with an offering of peanuts. The trees near the fence have now been cut down to prevent further escapes.
