Police in Palma del Río, Córdoba, have found the body of a canoeist who disappeared on July 3rd while on a trip down the Rio Genil from Ecija in Sevilla province to Sanlúcar de Barrameda in Cádiz province.
Rafael M, aged 44 years, was taking part in the VIII Ruta Bética del Aceite, a route from Ecija to Sanlúcar de Barrameda. Arriving at a point where a crossing had to be made on foot, Rafael M decided to try it in his canoe and was dragged downstream by the current.
A search was launched but no trace was found of the canoeist.
His body was spotted floating in the Rio Genil in Palma del Río, Córdoba, by members of the public who then notified the authorities.
