Illegal immigrants arrive in Almeria and Lanzarote

Two boats carrying illegal immigrants managed to reach the Spanish coast, one in Lanzarote and one in Almeria, with a total of 28 people being apprehended and another 18 now being sought after they fled from the beach.

At around 04:30 this morning a boat carrying 16 people was spotted about six miles south of Punta Sabinar in Almería. The boat was towed to shore and the occupants duly detained after being checked over by the Red Cross.

On Lanzarote, 12 people were detained after a boat landed at Playa Bastián, Costa Teguise, with six of them possibly being minors. According to the immigrants themselves, there were 30 people on the boat but 18 fled the scene when the vessel reached the beach.
