The two men who drowned in Almuñecar were a British father and son

The two men who drowned yesterday in Almuñecar, Granada province, were a British father and son who were staying with friends at a nearby villa.

The father, 75-year-old RW from Surrey, was swimming off Tesorillo when he was swamped by huge waves. His son, 45-year-old JW tried to swim out to save him but was unsuccessful and both men drowned.

Two young swimmers attempted to reach the stricken men but were forced to give up due to the strong currents and heavy seas. When the Civil Protection boat managed to get to the two men they found that they were already dead and could do no more than bring the bodies to shore.
