New law in Andalucia to regulate shellfish harvesting

The Junta de Andalucia is intending to adopt a new decree regulating the collection or harvesting of shellfish along the coast of Andalucia.

At present, shellfish are basically harvested in three ways. On foot, practiced by 421 people), diving, practiced by 33 people, and by boat, of which there are 391.

Since 2002, Andalucia has a law covering the organization, promotion and control of sea fishing, shellfish and marine aquaculture and according to the most recent reports, production is around 3,800 tonnes, valued at €13 million.
