Torrox man gets 17 years jail for murder

A Court in Málaga has sentenced a youth to 17 years imprisonment for the killing of another youth in the municipality of Torrox in 2008 following a dispute over a debt of €20.

In May 2008, a jury found the defendant guilty of murder. The youth has also been ordered to pay €290,000 compensation to the family of the victim.

The two men had been out drinking in Torrox Costa when, at one establishment, a heated argument began about an alleged debt of €20 and third parties had to intervene to keep the two men apart.

The defendant then waited outside and then came up behind the other man and hit him over the head with a blunt instrument with the intention of killing him.

Both judge and jury at the trial were satisfied that the act was carried out with premeditation.
