The Ministry of Industry has advised the electricity company Endesa that it cannot charge consumers for changing electricity meters, as the company is currently planning to do.
Endesa has already written to thousands of consumers telling them that they will be charged nine euros for a proposed change of electricity meter and reconnection to the new meter.
The new meters show the contracted power for each home with real-time readings in an attempt to detect and prevent fraud.
