Pet profiles

A new study has revealed that one in ten of all UK pets have their own Facebook page, Twitter profile or YouTube channel, and more than half of UK pet owners are sharing photos of their pets online. The latter, of course, is quite normal and natural.

There are a number of dedicated sites for pet owners, such as Critter, Catster and Doggie Dating. Others have also set up entire websites devoted specifically to their pets, although many of these are used to raise money for rescue centres or animal welfare charities.

Boo, a dog on Facebook liked by nearly 1.4million people, is officially categorised as a ‘Public figure’ and is shortly to be the subject of a book entitled “Boo: the Life of the World’s Cutest Dog”. Sockington the cat, who has nearly 1.5million Twitter followers, has tweeted nearly 8,000 times. Clever moggy.
