The environmental group Gena-Ecologists in Action has lodged complaints with Seprona and the Department of Environment of the Junta de Andalucia relating to sewage discharges into the rio Vélez.
Discharges of untreated sewage have been reported in one of the storm water pipes under the viaduct on the N-340. One hypothesis is that, at some point in time and for reasons unknown, the sewage collectors for some homes in urbanisation La Viña in Torre del Mar were connected to the storm water drainage system.
