Discarding chewing gum on the streets in Mijas can now lead to a fine of up to €3,000 as the Council tries to clean up the town.
The Council is not only concerned about the visual impact of an estimated 200,000 blobs of chewing gum adorning the streets and street furniture in Mijas but also the cost of cleaning up the sticky mess.
It is estimated that it takes around twenty minutes to clean up a single piece of gum.
