Police in Madrid have arrested 46 year old F.E.H. for her alleged involvement in the death of her husband in a fire at their home in Colmenar Viejo in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The fire began just after midnight and was preceded by a large explosion. Further explosions, caused by containers of gasoline, occurred as firemen battled the blaze. The victim was found with second and third degree burns to over fifty percent of his body and died from his injuries.
Meanwhile, 30 kilometres away, the man’s wife was involved in a car accident near Buitrago de Lozoya. The accident occurred about five minutes before the explosion in Colmenar Viejo.
Efforts by the police to trace relatives of the accident victim led to the discovery that her address was the same as that where an explosion and fire had just taken place. F.E.H., who is currently in hospital following the car accident, has been charged with murder, arson and a road traffic violation.
