The national Police in Vélez-Málaga have arrested two people, aged 21 years and 28 years, on suspicion of stealing 5,300 kilos of tropical fruits from farms in Valle Niza and along the Carretera de Cajiz.
Since last month there had been an increase in the number of robberies from farms in the Axarquia and the police strengthened monitoring of the area, both to reduce the number of thefts and to try and catch the offenders.
The two detainees allegedly stole 1,500 kilos of avocado and 3,800 kilos of mangoes and were detained on their way to Málaga to sell the produce either via small stalls or through various markets in the area.
