Contaminated water in Benaoján and Montejaque

For the past five days, residents of Benaoján and Montejaque have not been able to drink the local tap water due to contamination of the wells and the army has been bringing in water by truck.

The 2,600 residents can use the tap water for cleaning purposes but not for consumption. Test carried out on the water supply network did not detect the presence of any bacteria but the water is definitely contaminated according to the regional authorities.

The results of further tests carried out at various points are expected today although the general consensus seems to be that the problem has been caused by animal manure.

  1. People have been vomiting and experiencing stomach pains for 2months during which time Benaojan has had new water pipes laid in the village. Could damage to the pipes leading to the well be the cause? Seems a coincidence. Almost the wholevillage was ill during September
