The old ‘casas de peones camineros’, the former abode of workers responsible for the maintenance of national roads, are all over Málaga province, some having been converted into homes, others being left to deteriorate into ruins.
There are a couple of these in Nerja and in one case, the building near Marinas de Nerja, the Council has been trying, unsuccessfully, to take over the building from the central government.
The Council wants to convert it into a social and tourist facility and, despite banging their heads against a brick wall for years, they are once again making an approach to the central government via the Ministry of Development.
Good luck on that one, especially with an election looming.
