An historical XVI century document known as ‘Los Alardes de Velas’ has been returned to the Mijas municipal archives after undergoing comprehensive restoration.
The document contains the affidavits of guards and sentries on the old walls of the city during the period September 1561 and October 1563, a time when there was much pirate activity along the coast and frequent attacks on Mijas.
The document had suffered from natural ageing as well as from being poorly handled and conserved. It had also suffered from attacks by insects and rodents and a general darkening in some areas.
