Mountain Rescue have recovered the lifeless body of a 61 year old climber who got lost on Friday in the San Emiliano mountains in León.
The search operation began on Friday afternoon when 61 year old J.L., a resident of Mieres (Asturias), called the Emergency Services to say that he was in the Puerto de la Ventana area between León and Principado and was disoriented.
He said that he had food, drink and GPS but no torch and was lost. He also said it was very cold and visibility was hampered by fog.
A search was launched and continued all night but, hampered by the weather, it was unsuccessful. On Saturday morning, with helicopter support, the climber was located but, unfortunately, he had not survived his ordeal.
