A glorious, sunny New Year’s day and the restaurants down on Plaza Fabrica de los Cangrejos were very busy for New Year’s Day, particularly the terraces. At Bamboo I had a rather delicious ‘Merluza a la Vasca’ – hake cooked Basque style – which includes mussels, prawns, asparagus, an array of veggies, rice and chips.
The cost was €11, which is pretty good value for money. There was a very good guitarist sat just off the terrace playing for the entertainment of the diners.
What was particularly refreshing was that unlike so many of the itinerant ‘restaurant’ musicians he was not playing the same old ‘favourites’ and did not have someone wandering round with a hat before he’d finished the first ditty.
In fact, he just sat in his spot and played and anyone who wanted to could pop money in his basket on their way out. Most refreshing.
