Police detain alleged attacker of three elderly women

Guardia Civil officers from Murcia have arrested a man in El Ejido, Almeria, as the alleged perpetrator of an attack on three elderly women, one of whom died, in the town of El Rincón de los Cobos, Santomera, on February 27th.

The three women had been out on their usual walk when they were attacked, beaten and robbed, the assailant getting away with six euros.

One of the women died from her injuries and another remains in the Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca in Murcia after suffering a heavy blow to the head.

After the attack, police fairly quickly located an abandoned house where the suspect, a Moroccan national with the initials T.R., had been living. The house apparently contained evidence linking the suspect to the attack.

Police began an intensive search for the attacker throughout several provinces and eventually located him in El Ejido, Almeria. A heavy police presence was on hand to ensure that he did not evade capture. He is due to appear in court on Friday.
