An 84 year old woman and her 67 year old son died in the early hours of Sunday morning in a fire at their home in Calle Madroño in Mohedas de Granadilla, Cáceres.
Alfonso Batuecas Sánchez lived with and looked after his mother, Melania Batuecas Sánchez, since taking early retirement. The fire apparently started in the son’s room. The son attempted to rescue his mother but both succumbed to the fumes and died from asphyxiation.
