In the alternate universe…

In what alternate universe was the Australian Grand Prix ‘thrilling’ as lauded by various commentators? Button led from the first corner until the end of the race, 2nd and 3rd only switched during a stroke of fortune while the safety car was out, 5th earlier gained a place during a pit-stop…thrilling? Hardly. Interesting? maybe, to a point.

Pundits rave when a driver makes a single overtaking manoeuvre during the entire two hours of a race. Some circuits aren’t even suited to any overtaking at all, one long procession.

Having said that, I still watch the races, although I am more and more beginning to wonder why.

Add up all the overtaking moves, incidents etc and it probably wouldn’t fill more than a few minutes out of two hours.
