Drought has helped Huelva strawberry harvest

The drought and high temperatures and dry weather of the past few weeks has helped the strawberry harvest in Huelva with 40% of the expected crop already in.

Farmers in Huelva expect to harvest around 245,000 tons of strawberries this season. However, despite the favourable conditions, the frosts of February have meant that around 40% of the crop will be deformed and unsuitable for marketing and will instead be used for the making of yoghurts and preserves.

Farmers receive between €1 and €1.10 for each kilo of strawberries, about €0.40 per kilo less than last year.
