The Basque Interior Minister, Rodolfo Ares, has apologised to the family and friends of Athletic Bilbao supporter Iñigo Cabacas who died last Thursday after being shot with a rubber bullet following an incident after last Thursday’s match between Athletic Club de Bilbao and Shalcke 04.
The Minister apologised on behalf of himself, the Basque government and the Ertzaintza (Basque police), calling the death ‘wrongful’ and ‘unjust’.
The Minister added that he has issued instructions for the immediate tightening of controls regarding the use of riot gear and that as from January 1st 2013, the Seguridad Ciudadana of the Ertzaintza will be prohibited from using rubber bullets.
