A two year old girl is in intensive care after falling through the window of a fifth floor apartment in calle del Cardenal Tavera in the Sanchinarro district of Madrid.
The girl has had her spleen removed and is on mechanical ventilation with the next twenty-fours hours being the critical period.
The incident occurred just before 13:00 on Monday. One hypothesis being investigated is that the young girl was with a child minder and, through oversight, managed to get to the window and then fell.
Unfortunately, there were no clothes lines or other impediments to break the fall of the young girl until she hit the brick roof above the entrance hall.
