Another plea to save the tram

The Mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Francisco Delgado (PP), is once again asking the Junta de Andalucia to contribute financially to the tram system to avert the suspension of the system at the end of this moth or early June.

The Mayor states that the municipality cannot bear the cost of the system on its own, adding that the tram was ‘born mortally wounded’ through a lack of thorough analysis as to whether there was actually a demand for such a transport system.

Passenger numbers have been in sharp decline ever since the start of the tram system in 2006 and the municipality is running up huge debts which it cannot afford.
