A 66 year old man has been arrested as the alleged perpetrator of the murder of his 64 year old wife at their home in El Llano, Gijón.
At around 10:20 on Saturday, a man called the police to say that he was unable to enter his parents home and that his father had told him to call the police. Officers arrived at the house and eventually persuaded the man to open the door.
In the kitchen they found the lifeless body of the woman in a pool of blood. The body had several stab wounds, inflicted with a kitchen knife. The husband was also wounded, having tried to stab himself, and he was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery.
There was apparently no prior history of abuse within the family.
