The two major wildfires in Girona have claimed a fourth life, one of those injured yesterday having failed to recover from very serious burns.
The fatality relates to the fire in Portbou. The blaze, now under control, was apparently started by a discarded cigarette at the side of the road.
The fire in La Jonquera, however, continues out of control and has affected 13,000 hectares in 17 municipalities. Several towns have been left without power and roads have had to be closed.
The fires are the worst in Cataluña for several years. Around 1,000 people are involved in battling the blaze.
