Huelva today celebrates the 520th anniversary of the departure of the ships of Christopher Columbus – Cristobal Colón – from the port of Palos de la Frontera and, as usual, there will be celebrations in the town.
On August 3rd 1492, the Pinta, la Niña and the Santa Maria set sail from Palos de la Frontera on a journey which led to the discovery of what is now known as the Americas.
