The newborn baby found abandoned in Estepona last Tuesday is still in a very serious condition in the ICU of the Hospital Materno Infantil in Málaga with severe brain damage.
The baby is no longer being sedated but is being maintained in a induced coma with breathing controlled via artificial means.
The mother of the baby, a woman in her twenties, has been remanded in custody in prison on charges of attempted murder. The woman tried to conceal the pregnancy and, after giving birth in the house where she worked as a nanny, allegedly abandoned the newborn near urbanisation El Paraíso Barronal.
When found, the baby was suffering from skull fractures and internal bruising.
