In a tragic industrial accident in Benalmádena, a rubbish collector died on Wednesday after being crushed by an underground container platform.
The incident occurred at 14:10 at the containers in avenida Gandhi when the hydraulic system allegedly failed and a platform fell on top of the workman. He was taken to hospital but died a couple of hours later due to severe internal bleeding.
According to the CCOO union, excessive loss of oil in the hydraulic systems and lack of maintenance during the past three years has affected a number of similar platforms, and following an accident on August 20th in which a workman lost three fingers, the union requested a temporary cessation of use of the platforms until checks could be carried out.
