The visit to Atletico Madrid was always going to be a stern test for Málaga and so it proved on Sunday. Falcao put the home side ahead after just six minutes but Santa Cruz levelled things before the break.
All was going well for Málaga until one minute before time when Weligton turned the ball into his own net to give Atletico the three points. It was the first defeat of the aseason for the Blue and Whites.
Atlético are now level on points with Barcelona at the top of La Liga with Málaga in third and Real Betis in fourth.
