A 56 year old woman died on Friday morning after throwing herself from the fourth floor balcony of her home in calle Río Guadiana in the Los Corazones district of Málaga. Earlier this week she apparently received an eviction notice due to non-payment of the mortgage, although police have not yet confirmed this as the reason for the suicide.
The woman had lived in the house for several decades with her mother, now 96 years old and unwell. She used to run a tobacconist shop but got into financial difficulties three years ago and was forced to close. The locale had been purchased using the house as collateral and failure to keep up the payments resulted in foreclosure.
