The Mayor of Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado (PP), has signed an agreement with the director of Grupo Magtel, Leopoldo Álvarez-Barañaga, to become the first municipality in Málaga province to install a fibre optic network to improve and speed up telecommunications.
Grupo Magtel will invest €1.8 million to install 12 kilometres of fibre optics using existing municipal channels.
The agreement will also see income flowing into the municipal coffers, with Grupo Magtel having to pay a tax of 1.5% of gross income generated within the municipality and a one-off payment od €1 per metre of fibre optic cable laid, namely €12,000.
