Platform for the Defence of the Sugar Museum

The Platform for the Defence of the Torre del Mar Sugar Museum is developing a campaign to collect signatures to demand that the PP government choose an alternative site for the Centre for Innovation and Business Management, putting forward the old bingo hall and the old Virgen de la Victoria residential home as viable alternatives.

The Platform includes, amongst others, the Sociedad de Amigos de la Cultura (SAC), the Peña Círculo 81, the Grupo Independiente Pro Municipio de Torre del Mar (GIPMTM), Izquierda Unida (IU), Partido Andalucista, PSOE, Club de Triatlón Torre del Mar, the Asociación de Amas de Casa Torrebahía, the Comisión InterCentros and the Coro Luz del Alba.

The Platform is not against the Centre for Innovation and Business Management itself, but argues that the renovation of the Nuestra Señora del Carmen sugar mill was funded by the Department of Tourism based upon the commitment that the building would serve not only as a museum but also as a tourist distribution centre for the Axarquia.

The Platform want to see this commitment honoured with the Centre for Innovation and Business Management being located elsewhere.
