A report by the charity Caritas, based on the 2011 figures provided by the National Institute of Statistics, paints a demoralising picture of everyday life for many in Andalucia, with three out of ten living on less than €7,000 per year.
The government is, of course, working hard to make this ten out of ten. According to the report:
- 5.95% of households cannot afford a hot meal of fish or meat every second day.
- 10.52% of households cannot afford to maintain ad adequate temperature indoors during the winter.
- 55.38% of Andalucians cannot afford a week’s holiday away from home during the year.
- 48.01% of households cannot meet ‘unexpected’ expenditure.
- 16.83% of households are barely making ends meet.
- 7.24% of households cannot afford a computer in the home.
- 31.68% of Andalucians are below the poverty line of €7,500 per year for a single person or €15,768 for a family of four.
