Earthquake measuring 4.3 in Lorca

An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale occurred early this morning in northwest Lorca, the epicentre being 11 kilometres deep near the village of La Paca where the tremor reached intensity III.

The quake was also felt in Aledo, Totana, Cehegín and Archena in Murcia and in several towns in Almeria. The main quake, which occurred at 04:27, was preceded by a tremor of magnitude 2.7 at 23:30 last night and followed by one of magnitude 1.7 at 05:33 with an epicentre near Aledo.

Lorca was devastated on May 11th 2011 by a 5.1 magnitude earthquake in which nine people died and 324 were injured. Property damage on that occasion was put at €1.2 million. There have been no reports of injuries on this occasion.
