New radar trap in La Cala de Mijas

The DGT has installed a new radar speed trap on the A-7 in La Cala de Mijas and it becomes operational on Friday June 28th.

The new speed trap covers both directions and the cameras are installed at km 200+100 and km 205+300 . The system consists of four infrared cameras, one at each end of the sections being monitored. They are interconnected and measure average speed, which means that suddenly slowing down or changing lanes will not assist the motorist if he was going too fast.

The speed limit in this section is 80 kph and fines for infringement will a fine of between €100 and €600 and the loss of between two and six license points.

During the first few days no fines will actually be levied, motorists merely being informed via a letter of the error of their ways.

The radar trap is apparently clearly signalled, therefore it is entirely up to the motorist whether or not he or she wishes to contribute extra funds to the authorities.
