The XXI Media Legua Homenaje a “Ayo” beach race was held on Burriana beach at the weekend and the overall winners were Javier Díaz Carretero from San Pedro in the male category and Belen Infante from Alora in the women’s category. The event attracted club athletes from all over the province.
The race is a tribute to local celebrity ‘Ayo’, one of his many achievements being the first athlete from Nerja to be selected for the Spanish national team. He is also well-known, of course, for his paellas.
The various category winners were:

JUVENIL/JUNIOR: Pablo Gonzalez, Velez and Belen Infante, Guadalhorce.
PROMESA: Ismael Sedano, Nerja.
SENIOR: Alvaro Fernandez, Nerja and Maite Urdiales, Nerja.
VETERANO A: Javier Diaz, San Pedro and Soledad Menchon, Nerja.
