Fire in the campo between Torrox and Frigiliana

Campo FireA fire has been reported in the campo between the towns of Frigiliana and Torrox, the blaze starting at around 18:30 on Tuesday evening.

The police were the first on the scene followed by the Fire Brigade and then after about forty minutes the first helicopter arrived and began dropping water on the area.

Eventually, two helicopters and a light plane were involved in trying to extinguish the flames. Forty people in the area were evacuated from their homes as a precautionary measure but were later allowed to return.

The fire was brought under control at around 19:30.

  1. There is no stretcher. No one was hurt. It is a external box in which thise helikopters carry the big red bag which they use for suspending water on the fire. The put the bag into a waterdeposit and then back to the fire. See my blog today for more pics.

  2. Peter Wilkinson says:

I am always impressed by the helicopter crews and of the larger aircraft used in these operations to extinguish fires in remote areas. It must be a great comfort to those on the ground both residents and the police and fire services for their skill in what must be one of the most dangerous flying experiences and their training must be extremely taxing. Every one of them are a credit to their chosen profession. It is sad to hear at times that often these fires are caused by arsonists or by peoples stupidity and carelessness endangering lives and property.
