Fifty-nine migrants were rescued from their sinking boat about ten miles south of the isla de Alborán.
The boat’s engine had failed and it was shipping water and in danger of sinking. A call from Morocco alerted the authorities to the situation and the passengers, including eight women and three babies, were rescued and taken to the port of Motril, Granada province.
Several were treated for hypothermia and two required treatment in hospital.
