Six people had to be treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and an entire block in Urbanisation Carteya, in avenida Ramón Puyol, Algeciras, had to be evacuated after fire broke out in one of the dwellings.
The fire started at around 10:00 and originated in a home on the fifth floor of the apartment block. Five of the injured were from one family and occupants of the home where the fire originated. The sixth person injured was a neighbour. All were seniors.
The fire was successfully extinguished and the building ventilated but the affected home was completely destroyed.
