A family birthday celebration at a rural house in Tordómar, Burgos, ended in tragedy on Saturday morning with the deaths of six people, three women and three children, after a fire broke out.
Family members, some from Tordómar and others travelling from Gijón and Madrid. had gathered at the ‘Ribera del Arlanza’ rural house to celebrate the birthday of a grandmother. Early in the morning, it is thought a spark from the fire ignited a couch and this resulted in a fire and toxic fumes.
The grandmother, two of her daughters and three young children died as a result of the fire. The mayor has declared three days of official mourning.
