Four children aged between three and twelve years died on Tuesday when fire ripped through their home in El Vendrell, Tarragona.
At least four others, including the father of the children, were injured in the blaze.
The mother was able to rescue one of her children, a two-year-old baby, and an 18-year-old managed to escape from the burning apartment.
Firefighters were called to the scene at around midnight after fire broke out on the top floor of the four-storey building.
The bodies of the children, aged three, five, eight and twelve, were recovered at the scene. The 51-year-old father was taken to Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona suffering from burns to 11% of his body.
